Eva Cassidy

The first time I heard the cover of "Fields of Gold", I knew it was something special. It was performed with so much emotion, that something instinctually told me that it was sung from the heart, which is a rare thing to find among the masses of manufactured music which float around in the mainstream's consciousness these days.

Strangely enough, I discovered it not on the radio nor from recommendations from friends, but someone's mp3 player with portable speakers, which was playing in the lounge of an island resort where I went for a trip with some friends.

Though I had some trouble finding it as the song was mis-attributed on the mp3 player, I finally discovered it on Youtube, which proved to be a wonderful source for other songs and covers by Eva.

Sadly, she has since passed away over a decade ago due to cancer. I don't usually a sentimental person, but her singing is truly special, so this is my tribute, a collection of her covers I like best.
